Suspect pleads not guilty to DUI, murder... |
Kevin McGuinness, the allegedly drunken driver from a crash that took the life of a cabdriver and his passenger earlier this month, pleaded not guilty to murder Thursday.
McGuinness, a 43-year-old Irish citizen, has three prior DUI convictions in the last 10 years, two in Sonoma County and one in San Francisco. He is also charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of causing bodily injury while driving drunk. If he is convicted of second-degree murder he could face a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
Cabdriver Zareh Soghikian, 76, and Duke University student Tyler Brown, 21, died after McGuinness' pickup truck collided with their taxi on the corner of Webster and Broadway streets on Oct. 9. Brown's brother, Adrian and friend, Michael Geidgowd were injured riding in the back seat and injured during the crash. Authorities said McGuinness had been speeding down Broadway at 80 miles per hour with a 0.19 blood alcohol level — more than twice the legal limit.
