The Oct. 16 accident killed Ashley Prather, 16, of Seaside and Jihan Abdelgawad, 18, of Miramar, who were on the right shoulder of El Camino Real when a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Patrick Archie Worden of Santa Rosa veered toward them, according to the Burlingame Police Department. The two girls had apparently pulled to the shoulder after their vehicle became disabled. According to San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, Worden had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 two hours after the accident. "Concerns about Mr. Worden's emotional state," who is said to be in shock, led to the postponement of his plea entry by Superior Court Judge Joseph Gruber to Nov. 22. Wagstaffe said Worden is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter involving alcohol and faces up to 13 years in state prison.
