By admin at Tue, 2005-10-25 22:54 The man accused of killing two teenage girls in an alcohol-related crash in Burlingame appeared in a San Mateo County courtroom today where a request for more time to enter a plea was granted. The accident occurred in the 1600 block of El Camino Real around 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 16 when a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Patrick Archie Worden of Santa Rosa veered toward the road's right shoulder, according to the Burlingame Police Department. Worden's pickup struck Ashley Prather, 16, of Seaside and Jihan Abdelgawad, 18, of Miramar, who had apparently pulled to the shoulder after their vehicle became disabled, according to police. Both sustained fatal injuries when each was struck by Worden's pickup truck and were pronounced dead at the scene. According to San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, two hours after the accident Worden had a blood-alcohol level of .16. "Concerns about Mr. Worden's emotional state," who is said to be in shock, led to the four-week postponement of his plea entry by Superior Court Judge Joseph Gruber. Wagstaffe said Worden is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter involving alcohol, and is being held in custody without bail. If convicted on both charges, Worden faces up to 13 years in state prison, Wagstaffe said. Worden will appear in court again on Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at which time he is expected to enter a plea.
