Instead another prosecutor will be assigned to handle the hearing, she said. Dustin Serpas, 27, was charged with violating probation last month after he was involved in an accident while driving an SUV in Murfreesboro on Oct. 5. Dustin Serpas was on probation after pleading guilty to one DUI charge and no contest to an additional charge. One of the conditions of that probation, which was to last 11 months and 29 days, was that Serpas surrender his license for a year. Although Serpas did not have a license when the accident happened, Murfreesboro police gave him a warning citation and did not arrest him. Murfreesboro police are investigating the incident and looking at whether officers acted inappropriately by letting Serpas go with only a citation. West Tennessee authorities in Fayette County arrested Nashville murder suspect Alvis Leroy Sadler in a traffic stop yesterday, Metro police said. Sadler, 40, was identified in a criminal homicide warrant issued Tuesday afternoon in connection with the death of Everett Alexander Lowe. Police said Lowe, 29, suffered a fatal head injury from being punched in the face at a Murfreesboro Pike bar on Oct. 1. A witness identified Sadler from a photo lineup as the man who hit Lowe, police said. Sadler is expected to be returned to Nashville later this week. Metro Police are looking to locate Quinton Jamel Reffegee for questioning in connection with the Oct. 1 killing of Clifford Dickerson Jr. in the Cumberland View public housing development. He also is listed in outstanding aggravated robbery and aggravated assault warrants. Reffegee, 21, most recently known to have lived on Cheryl Avenue in Madison, is also a suspect as one of three gunmen who robbed and threatened a couple as they sat in a pickup truck in the 2400 block of 25th Avenue North on Aug. 6, police said. Police believe Reffegee has knowledge about the murder of Dickerson, who was found shot to death between two public housing buildings on 26th Avenue North. Dickerson, 21, was lying on top of a pistol when he was found, police said. His 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe was set on fire nearby at 25th Avenue North and Santi Avenue. Anyone seeing Reffegee or knowing his whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. A school resource officer at Stratford High School arrested a 16-year-old sophomore for carrying a fully loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol on campus, Metro police said yesterday. Officer George Patonis was told by another student that the gun might have been on campus, police said. Patonis and Stratford's principal located the student outside the school building skipping class. The pistol was found in the teen's jacket pocket during a search, police said. The student told police that he was carrying the gun for protection. Police said he will be charged at Juvenile Court with carrying a firearm on school property. An investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the gun. A Nashville-based film and video production company won an Emmy from the National Television Academy for its drinking-and-driving public service announcement commercial in which a man appears to kick a sleeping bear. Piranha Pictures' "Booze It Enforcement: Kick a Bear," was produced on behalf of the Governor's Highway Safety Office and the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and has been shown throughout Tennessee to help stop drunk driving on state roadways. After a loud growl from the bear, the audio tagline is: "Makes as much sense as driving drunk." The award was presented last month in New York City. "We really felt like we were the long shot," said Rob Zimmerman, Piranha's founder and executive producer. He noted that his company was competing against national organizations such as Oxygen Media, which is Oprah Winfrey's parent company. This is cache, read story here login to post comments |
